Dear Tinku,

I send you warm greetings from Chandigarh and it is appropriate that I send you this message on the feast of Diwali – a festival of light and joy.

Thank you for inviting me to the gathering of former pupils of St. Patrick’s Asansol at the end of January 2016. I know that the occasion will be one of renewed acquaintances, story telling and fond memories. For me the main reason for coming together is to re-establish the bonds that we had in school. They say that school friends are the longest lasting. They remind us of a time when we were young and idealistic and could dream great dreams for the future. Perhaps we might be able to tap into those dreams once more and find new energy for the days ahead.

I pray that our alumni are able to put aside narrow self-interest and join hands as one organisation (SPAAA), which has been formally recognised by the school authorities. It pains me to hear of divisions in our ranks. Surely we are bigger than this. May this coming gathering remind us of what binds us, rather than of what separates us.

My blessings on all of you and my prayers remain with you.
